There's a few things you can see in here.
One: How I check and release as I ride. When you see my hand come up I am making contact with my hackamore and sending her forward with my legs. It's a reminder I'm there, asking her to move forward, gather herself, or all three.
When my hand drops I've gone neutral, although sometimes I'm still giving her leg.
When we're moving forward without hesitation I take leg pressure off too.
Two: You can see how crooked I can get, any time Modonna goes to the left of the screen it's because I'm leaning right. I've got a lot of leaning in my post and sitting the lope to work on, but it's better than last summer. At least I'm finding my center again instead of just hanging out there.
She bucks in here....can you find it?
I'll post again in a month or so and see if I'm any straighter.
I promise I'll eventually upload some decent music.

Hehehe....butthead. lol
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking us along! That's the closest I have been and will be to riding for a while.
I'm not sure if you said it, because I can't hear anything on this computer, but is that the infamous bra-cam? My guess is, the bucking comes around 3 1/2 minutes.
ReplyDeleteInteresting perspective. Where do you have your camera mounted?
ReplyDeleteAaaahh... redhorse beat me to it, I also wondered if it's the "infamous bra-cam"!
ReplyDeleteI was trying to think what my horse would do with snow, doubt he has ever seen any in his life. How do you get your horse dry/comfortable after a ride like that?
That would be the bra cam...
ReplyDeleteIt was interesting to see the leaning that you're talking about. The bra cam is still pointing forward, so you're not twisting the way she's listing, but the angle to the horizon changes.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you do to get going straight again? Put extra weight on the left side?
Kel, it's trying to balance my seatbones the does it, one is higher than the other....
ReplyDeleteI still haven't figured it out
Boy she moves right out! Was the buck shortly after you rounded the corner for home?
ReplyDeletethe sun is intense hear, even in 35 degree weather...she was dry by the time I was done grooming and messing around...about 20 minutes.
ReplyDeleteHaha her fabled screaming!
ReplyDeleteHey Mugs have you seen a chiropractor? My leaning was due to my actual right hip sitting higher in the socket than the left. (No joke!)
ReplyDeleteJustaplainsam-I'm way past chiro I'm afraid...
ReplyDeleteMy guess is the bucking was around the 3:25-3:30 mark.
ReplyDeleteBra cam... sounds interesting. I remember you mentioning it before but can't remember if you told us any details (ie kind of camera, how its attached)
The buck is just before you start giggling and call her a butthead ;) have you thought of going for physio? I thought my back was forever messed, until the physiotherapist helping me after my car accident got things moving again. Part of my back that hadn't moved in at least 10 years now moves. Sure it's rusty and cranky, but it's getting better and the difference is amazing.
ReplyDeleteTry massage. Get someone who's a good sports masseur, understands myofascial release and all that good stuff. I have a right seatbone that sits higher and massage really helps the soft tissue piece of the equation.
ReplyDeleteIf you have access to an adult ballet class that caters to stove up adults looking for ballet as conditioning (not kid performance classes) that's another good option. If you can find a Cecchetti-certified person or someone who does Cecchetti styling that's great. You want a barre class, not so much floor work.
The thing about ballet barre work is that it is a systematic progression of exercises where one leg is working and the other is supporting, and you have to stand straight. That's what the barre is for. A good ballet instructor will adjust you until the hips are straight, the shoulders are straight, and you're standing upright.
Fun!
ReplyDeleteYour camera is great...and the audio is pretty sensitive. At first, under the music, I heard a sound, and had to listen again..thought it might have been (cough cough) Madonna passing wind, but realized it was your saddle squeeking!
HaHaHa! Jackie
Really liked the video, looks like a beautiful day. I've taken some horseback videos myself with my jvc everio, on youtube as Haypharmer.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking of rigging up an old cellphone to record hands free.
Hope you don't take offense but I'm glad I ride walkers, after a ride like that I'd be sore for days....
P.S. Your talents were wasted on FHOTD - Mugwump Chronicles is now my goto blog :)
Bra Cam! NO wonder the picture was so jiggly! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you horsefarmer! Gotta argue a touch - she's pretty smooth.
ReplyDeleteSpunky horse you have there! Loved the video..guessing the buck was just before you called her Butthead lol. Love where you get to ride on that nice sandy trail - much more interesting than round and round the arena.
ReplyDeleteCool ride! Thx for taking us along. I too think the buck was just before we hear "butt head".
ReplyDeleteAre we correct?
Yes...you guys found it...butt head is reserved for that kind of nonsense.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the ride, brought back all kinds of memories:)
ReplyDeleteI got my BF a GoPro for his bd. He's like a little kid with it. I might have to borrow it.
Love your mare.
Is there something wrong with me that I find this video so soothing to watch? It's like being on Star Wars at Disneyland - you know you're not actually moving, but your brain gets tricked anyways. Thanks for the "ride", Mugs.
