Uggg.... I wish I wish I wish... Someday, I will have the money to be able to bring my girls west and ride. Until then, I'll just dream of being able to participate in this wonderful opportunity.
What would be the best airport to fly into? I don't think I can trailer out, but would love to audit, or if there is a horse available to lease for the weekend I would love info on that too. Thanks!
Oh wow, I so wish I could go for the "leave the warmblood at home" option. I love my horse but I would love the opportunity to ride a cowhorse in a clinic with you! *sigh*
It's a 28 hour drive for me.. I would LOVE to do this and I think my horse would enjoy it as well. One day I'll get to have fun too! I hope everyone posts about all the fun they have!!!
What a genius idea, I so wish that I could make this happen! Somehow I just don't think a thirty hour drive is doable for me. I will be very jealous of everyone who makes it.
What if a person has ridden English their whole lives, never done any sort of cow work before but is dying to try it? Would it be appropriate to sign up or would it slow down the other participants?
@ Rachel, I have a friend that rides English but loves putting her horse on the cows, and the horse does fantastic! They say it purpose behind the "moves" Of course this is only what I have heard, as I do not ride English myself.
@Cindy - I am not worried so much about my horse (though he is scared of cows)...I would probably be looking to borrow one, as I lack transport, unless trailering pools could be found.. but about me and my lack of knowledge aka what does fence work mean? I have a good seat and have ridden a bunch Western but have never done cow work per se...anyway I'd LOVE to come and join in if it's beginner friendly!
Oh Rachel, my good friend, Donna, who is a dressage queen with a dressage empress Lusitano mare both fell in love with cows and cow work. You get on one of those cow ponies and all that English riding will click into place. Can't wait to hear the stories and see the Pics!!!
@ Rachel- I could be wrong here, but I believe fence work has to do with "penning" your cow along the fence and moving him in the desired direction. If I am wrong, someone please feel free to jump in and correct me, as I'd like to know for sure.
I am so excited to these this finally happening for everyone! I hope it's a big hit and will warrant another one in the next year or so. I'm already doing the Florida Cracker Trail Ride next week and the Red Rock Ride in the fall. My budget is busted ! :-)
rachael..You wouldn't be anything but an asset. There will be lots of one on one,so the only experience needed is to be able to ride. The people who know what they're doing will get plenty of time too.
This is about learning and having a good time, the kind of saddle makes no difference.
Yay! I emailed you earlier today but you have answered my questions. Now I just need to line up a horse, pretty please may I borrow one! Then, just let me know where to send the cheque :) I'm so excited!!
Oh Mugs-- as soon as I know where (and if you have a spare horse, or even pony (I'm short) my check is in the mail! This trip is so perfectly exactly what I've always wanted to do. I couldn't've planned it better if I'd done it myself.
Want want want want. But if I had $500 right now my hay would be paid for, so.... Can't. Do you have any idea how much I would love to do this??? I'd even get over my airplane phobia!!!
I really hope you do this again in the future! I'll have to start saving up. I'll live vicariously through blog reports though. Better than nothing. Oh my gosh you are all going to have such a rewarding time!
What the others said... I wish I wish I wish... And I'm in Australia. With a knee injury. And a new fence that's sucked my entire budget for the year. Three strikes! One can dream...
Oooohhhhh! Omg omg omg, this is going to be so fun. Want to, want to, want to. Anyone want to carpool from Northern Ca? I am not sure that I can afford to drive that distance alone.
This is so cool, thanks for putting on a clinic!
I imagine that I may end up a proud member of the jealous club, hoping for a second or a third opportunity.
I'm going to try to be mature about this. Since it looks like I won't get to go, or even be a looky loo, I expect at least one post from each attendee. Two would be better, but you could substitute a really good video for one of the posts. If you don't...
Geez, that's what I get for not checking daily while work is crazy. I want to go, but hauling from TX isn't happening. Don't know if I can handle just being a looky loo.
You should do something in Colorado...much as I love Montana, and try to get there each summer, my destination (Virginia City) is 241 miles from Roundup. And I lack a horse. And funds. And time off work.
Alas. I really do wish I could join you, even as a "looky-loo"!
Workin' on how to make this happen from my end...what an awesome opportunity!!

Darc C - It's in Billings, about 70 miles away. I would strongly suggest you email Dawn Unzicker at www.unzickercowhorse.net.
ReplyDeleteShe knows the ins and outs of getting to Roundup better than I and will pass the word on to Tim about finding a horse for you.
Oh wow, I so wish I could go for the "leave the warmblood at home" option. I love my horse but I would love the opportunity to ride a cowhorse in a clinic with you! *sigh*

Only a 13 hour drive from me! Might need to rethink my summer.
ReplyDeleteIt's a 28 hour drive for me.. I would LOVE to do this and I think my horse would enjoy it as well. One day I'll get to have fun too! I hope everyone posts about all the fun they have!!!
ReplyDeleteMy only issue might be funds due to the large amount of money I am spending on getting Sassy sound again. But, I'm sure gonna try!
ReplyDeleteYes I am all for trailer pooling.

Oh this would be crazy fun! Right around the time that I was looking to take a little time off from work...
ReplyDeleteHmmm, wonder if I could make this work? I've always wanted to visit Montana!
Alright, I think y'all have convinced me...Mugs, I'll be emailing you!!

OOOOOOOHHHHHH If only I wasn't a poor university student who lives in a whole other country, not to mention on the east coast.

Oh, looks like a 20 or so hour drive from Humboldt.

ReplyDeleteAnybody thinking about hauling from Oregon?? I know its a long shot but worth asking lol
ReplyDeleteSummersmom, what part of Oregon? I would have to go through Oregon to get there. So if you are serious and can help with Gas then we should talk!
ReplyDeleteneckpatter@gmail.com
Good idea Redhorse =)
ReplyDeleteGeez, that's what I get for not checking daily while work is crazy. I want to go, but hauling from TX isn't happening. Don't know if I can handle just being a looky loo.
ReplyDeleteMugs, If you ever decide to do one of these in Texas, I'll supply the Ranch!
ReplyDeleteI was all set and excited to go, but now it appears as though I won't be able too. Such a bummer. :-(
ReplyDeleteIf I can make this happen I will be driving from Milwaukee, WI to audit. If anyone wants a ride or another driver I would be happy to help.
