No broken bones, but it was definitely the worst fall I've had in my 20+ years of riding.

I'm working on the mental rehab while my body mends...part of me can't wait to work with my horse again to see if this was a fluke...and the other part is terrified that I just taught my young boy a very dangerous new trick.Becki D.http://www.beckibakes.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4380534023229200743.post-8225218246816004132011-03-22T09:26:05.657-06:002011-03-22T09:26:05.657-06:00Great story and one many of us can relate to. Was ok riding my own horse regularly, but when they asked me to jump that horse again... cold sweats, shaking, unable to stop crying. Jumping cross country for the first time on him was terrifying.
I found having a number of flat lessons with him and learning to work WITH this horse was key. He's lovely, but so different from my own horse I just had no idea. Plus, the only time I got to ride him was when I was being pushed HARD.
My riding improved with leaps and bounds though, and now I find my confidence on my own horse is hugely improved as well: Harry is coming back into work after six months of turn out. I got him out of the paddock, saddled him and got on. Without fear.
I guess when your limits get pushed enough you have to grow to accomidate them! Bravery is something to practice in small doses every single day- being brave is not being un-afraid. It's being afraid and doing it anyway.Tansyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13591073671602947254noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4380534023229200743.post-41518541735768937092011-03-21T17:21:21.865-06:002011-03-21T17:21:21.865-06:00Go Dreammaker! I took a bad fall back in 2004 (totally my fault) and really knocked the fear into high gear.
Stephanie Burns' book, Move Closer, Stay longer helped alot, As did good friends like Dreamer has.

I was delighted to hear she did the 10 mile ride, with friend and trading out walking and riding. Diego (Dream Makker) and I completed his first 50 mile endurance ride this past Saturday, 3/19. I'll be posting the story very shortly on my blog. He was incredibly awesome all day. It's a vicious cycle.D'Naehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03171220763451993679noreply@blogger.com
