WTH is Brockle?

Death of the Yeti

I messed up Brockle's DNA test and had to do it again.
Here's one last look.

  9. Border Collie/Belgian Shepherd or Shepherd of some ilk.

    I had a beloved Border Collie out of Eastern Oregon that looked a lot like this dog but was 15 pounds lighter.

  10. We don't get yeti trolls in these parts, Mugs, but they look unpleasant. Good thing you have a Brockle to take care of them for you.

    Belgian Shepherd/Australian Shepherd/Chow. They are specially bred to take out Yeti trolls.

  12. He is in the first wave of alien canine invaders...

  13. GSD, Border Collie, and ACD. The recessive prick ears keep haunting me which is why I'm going ACD. I think ACD is the only breed that's got prick ears AND merle.

  14. zebra dreams...the recessive thing kept on throwing me in so many ways.

  15. Malinois, GSD, Border Coliie, & Heeler

  16. Malinois x English shepherd

  17. Belgian Malinois/akita/border collie. Some kind of collie anyway. Good looking dog.

  18. zebradreams (and others as I've seen it said more than once), ACDs are ticked like a pointer/dalmation not merled.

    That said;
    I'm going collie/borzoi (lurcher), anatolian, german shepherd.

    That's my final answer :)

  19. Does that mean there's no full size breed with prick ears and merle? I know aussies and Danes have it, what else?

    I'm not sure I buy prick ears being recessive though - I've got a shepherd mix with lab/pit bull sire and his are prick, though more towards bat ears.

  20. If your lab/pit carries one gene for prick ears then you can get them on the pup.
    That's why the recessive stuff is so sneaky.

  21. But those breeds are both drop, he would have to have something else behind him - possible I guess. None of their ears were standing when I picked him up but they all looked the same, so I would have expected them all to have prick - and some should have been drop if the sire only carried one recessive.

    I do a lot of genetic pondering on my goats, not so much dogs since I don't breed them. Think I'm out of guesses on the merle, since I think it's a pretty safe bet that he's not Great Dane or Rat Terrier. Almost has to be Aussie Shepherd then, right?

  22. Oh, collies...duh...I guess Borders carry it as well as standard Collies. That could explain his build but sure doesn't show in the face...

  23. Off the top of my head merle exists in;
    Australian Shepherd
    Great Dane
    Collie (rough & smooth)
    Border Collie
    Catahoula Leopard Dog
    Beauceron
    American Pit Bull Terrier (crossed into some lines)
    Dachshund
    Carigan Welsh Corgi
    Chihuahua

    and probably one or 2 others I'm missing. Now most of those are probably not in the make-up of a Brockle.

    The ticking he shows reminds me less of merle and more of the ticking/roan shown in;
    ACD
    Dalmation
    English Setter
    1 or more of the pointer breeds
    Englsih Cocker Spaniel.

    That's my contribution to the mystery today. I still like my earlier guess.

  24. Now that you mention it, it does - not sure why I was hung up on merle! I think I'm safe with my guess then. I really see Border Collie in his head.

  25. Mugs, that's one intense hound you have there. We have 3 ACDs...and I thought they were focused. Ha! All 3 are an amateur warm up compared to Brockle. My guess: Border Collie/ACD and GSD/Tervuren; maybe a little collie thrown in just because grandma was careless and the local GSD was feelin' frisky. Amy in Ohio

  26. Ticking shows up on border collies, aussies, ACD's, collies...
