  1. ROTFLMAO ' if you were the last buyer on the planet, I would keep my horses for their own good ' !!!!!

My SO and I were having the 'pricing' discussion the other day. When you train 'mid-level' quarter horses (ie, not 'world show' and not 'backyard', but ones that are bred to go out and perform typical ranch work, roping, siblings are ranch and rodeo horses currently winning money) ... there is such a vast difference in pricing depending on where you are and who you're talking to. An $800 colt in Texas might be a $2500 colt in Alabama. But then you put a year of roping training on it, and in Texas it's now a $5000 colt while in AL it's still a $2500 colt. And forget trying to price something that is so deadbroke bombproof your grandmother could ride it.

Everyone wants a $400 babysitter that neck reins, trail rides, has show experience but won't buck, bite or run off. They don't want to pay $1200 for something that won't hurt their kid -- forget about $3000 to priceless -- they want all that time and training for as close to free as they can get it.

  2. Bwaa haa haa haa.

Ages ago, when I was showing AQHA, we had a family in this state start showing and they were able to buy anything they wanted. I believe the mother and 2 daughters got into AQHA and went around the country and bought 5 or 6 horses who were already world champions in their classes. They went to the "Worlds" the first year and won. When the girls went to college, the family donated the farm, the barns, and all the horses to a (Big 10) State College.

I don't know what happened to their trainers or their Mexican grooms (who had been treated like slaves). They weren't horsaii and they made me sick. I always thought their horses looked gaunt and dead in the eyes.

  4. This is so funny and so true. Pity that horse training is so much about people.

  5. Snorfle. What a fun world. I am glad I work with a SNT who takes no crap.

Round these parts some horses that have done literally nothing but be backed and wtc in an arena and some trails are $10000. But they're a pretty kolor ;)

  6. LMBO! Those videos crack me up! I guess because my gelding jumped a 4' fence when he was being weaned to get to his mama, he should be a jumper. Not! Just a lovely little trail horse with a few occasional local schooling shows is all he'll ever do. ;)

The other thing someone said about people wanting a deadbroke bombproof horse for next to nothing, if you want a really good horse you will either pay for it, pay for training, or do it yourself. Why can't people understand that even with the economy the way it is, they can't get something for nothing? Some of those videos are so crazy, it's hard to believe there are people out there like that but I guess there is. haha
